power walk

Yesterday I wore flipflops and had camera hanging on my neck when we headed for an evening walk. Mr A was not too impressed about this, so tonight I got orders to wear sneakers and leave camera home. Therefore, the picture is not from this evening, but from the beginning of the week (luckily AJ is a bit more relaxed than his dad and does not mind me taking pictures). Anyway, I felt so like in Finland, when we came across these nettle bushes and birch trees in the middle of the Regent's Park.

happened in paris

Nautimme ranskalaista aamiaista hautausmaalla.
We had French breakfast at the graveyard.

We bought macarons in different chocolate, pistachio, lemon and red berries flavors. They were so delicious, that I managed to get a picture of only the empty paper bag.

At the picnic, the champagne bottle opened with such a pressure that the cork almost hit the people walking by.

Toiseksi pienin matkalaisista söi elämänsä ensimmäisen kerran etanoita, eikä sitten loppu viikonloppuna melkein muuta syönytkään.

The second smallest of us ate snails for the first time, and ate for the rest of the weekend only snails.

Ja tietysti kävimme katsomassa turistinähtävyyksiä. Kaiken kaikkiaan ihana sisarusmatka (+yksi avo- ja yksi aviomies sekä tietysti pikku-A)!

And of course we saw many of the tourist attractions. Such a lovely trip with the siblings (+one fiance and one husband and naturally AJ, too)!

me and my monkey

"My friends monkey, parrot, elephant, and giraffe followed me to London (mum's note: no wonder we had so much stuff with us!) and I play with them everyday; I rip them from their legs, give them a good swing and have nice chats with them."

5th floor

In London we live on the 5th floor. There are two elevators in the building, but the other one is so small that the pram does not fit in. Already during the first week, there were some challenges with the elevator.

One day we were returning home and the elevator was stuck on the 3rd floor. I started to put the pram into pieces to be able to take the smaller elevator, when Patrick from the 1st floor arrived and wondered if I needed some help. He offered to carry the pram into our floor and I took AJ and all our belongings.

On Thursday we were going out and this time the elevator was working fine, but it was full of the cleaning lady's equipment. Well, after waiting some time in the stairway, the elevator was empty again and off we went.

What I have learned, is that if I need to run out just quickly with the baby, I should not take the pram with me but Baby Björn.

park life

Aurinkoista viikonloppua!

We spend the day in a park again yesterday. This time in the Paddington Street Gardens, which is a small garden (or park) behind a brick wall in the middle of Marylebone. There is also a big, braised playground in this park for children a bit older than AJ. Today we are not heading to any of the parks, because we have a train to catch - to Paris. Have a very sunny weekend!

where is thumbkin?

"I have found my hand and thumb and enjoy watching and sucking them. Sometimes I suck my thumb noisily in a smacking manner. The loud noise probably bothers my mum, since she often then comes and removes thumb from my mouth. When out in the pram, we often play a game where I put my thumb in my mouth, my mum stops the pram and puts a dummy instead in my mouth, when the pram moves again I then as fast as possible spit the dummy out of my mouth and put the thumb back in my mouth. This we do for many, many rounds."

the boy who would not grow up

The walks in the park continued today in the Hyde Park. Finally I managed to find the Peter Pan statue (now when I know where it's located, I will show it to you too, Mr A). It was so warm today that AJ was wearing a t-shirt for the first time in his life. Some of the time he was sleeping, some staying awake and for a short while we stopped to lie down under a tree. Let's hope the hot weather will continue both in Helsinki and London!

a rose is a rose is a rose

Nyt vasta pikku-An kanssa liikkuessani olen huomannut miten meluinen kaupunki Lontoo on. Päivätorkkukävelyt on siis parasta tehdä puistoissa. Heti ekana päivänä suuntasimme Regent's Parkiin ja siellä olevaan ruusupuutarhaan. Puutarhan ruusut eivät olleetkaan ihan tavallisia ruusuja, vaan Ingrid Bergmaneja, suuria salaisuuksia tai onnekkaita.

Now when exploring the city with AJ in the pram, I have realized how much noise there is on the London streets. The lunch time nap walk is therefore best in the parks. On our first day we had a walk in the Regent's Park and its Rose Garden. I noticed that the roses there aren't just roses but Ingrid Bergmans, Deep Secrets, or Luckies.

hello london

Ja tuon tavarakasan alla pikku-A parka nukkuu vaunuissaan...

A junior's first flight to London went well: he just laughed at the take off and was sleeping during the landing. No more traveling with hand baggage only, as you can see from the picture. And under all these bags, poor AJ is sleeping in his pram...

let the sun shine

"Olen 10 viikkoa vanha ja melko cool näissä aurinkolaseissani. Antaa paistaa vaan, täältä tullaan kesä!"

"I'm 10 weeks old and pretty cool in my shades. Let the sun shine, summer - here I come!"

13.5.2012

early in the morning

Early in the morning I heard some noise from the kitchen and then the door to open. Not long from that, there was breakfast in bed and a bunch of these cute white flowers. It is Mother's day in Finland today, have a great day!

font walk

Tähän mennessä Fonttikävely on ensimmäinen ja ainoa Helsingin designpääkaupunkivuoteen kuuluva näyttely, joka on herättänyt kiinnostukseni. Kävin jo jokin aikaa sitten noutamassa Napa Galleriasta kartan, johon on merkitty erilaisia mielenkiintoisia fontteja kylteissä ja opasteissa Kampin alueella. Vielä joku päivä me lähdemme pikku-An kanssa kiertämään kartan opastaman reitin. Siinä pitäisi mennä n. 45 minuuttia.

Ja ennen tuota Kampin-kierrosta voimme ihastella oman lähiseutumme fontteja, kuten kuvassa.

So far the one and only Helsinki World Design Capital programme's exhibition that has really caught my eye has been the Font Walk. Already some time ago I picked up a map, which shows the addresses of some interesting fonts in different signs in the Kamppi region, from Napa Gallery. One day we will take this walk, that should take appr. 45 minutes, with A junior.

And before that, we will admire the fonts in our own neighborhood, as in the picture.

pie for the priest

Christening planning continues and today the priest will visit us. I baked yesterday this leman merengue pie and we already tasted some of it with Mr A and yes, it was really delicious.

5.5.2012

at the visor kiosk

There are still 19 kiosks like in the picture, called visor kiosks, in Helsinki. They originate from the 1940's. The one situated at Laajalahden aukio is closest to our home and today we enjoyed afternoon coffee there.

2.5.2012

no name

Both my and Mr A's families have had the tradition of announcing the baby's name in the christening party. We have decided to follow this tradition also with A junior, and for this reason he has been called by name baby.                                                                                                                                    Having no name for now nearly two months has caused some trouble, like with the passport application. We tried to submit the application this week, but did not succeed, because AJ does not have name yet in the population register. The christening will take place in a few weeks and our first trip to London is planned the day after the party, so we better start to hurry with the registration of the name.

pique-nique

Ei, se on hankittu tietysti iso-An take away -kahville.

We started the first of May morning with brunch at our friends' place and after that, like quite a few others, we had a traditional Vappu picnic in Kaivopuisto. A junior slept through the whole picnic in his pram and behaved very well at the brunch, too.

P.s. Many have wondered the mug holder in the pram and thought that it's for baby's bottles. No, it's of course for Mr A's take away coffee. And worked well with a small bottle of sparkling.
